Hornwort (Ceratophyllum demursum)

Characteristics
Hornwort also known as Coontail can be found through out the world in many lakes and streams.This plant is a fast growing species and under artificial lights it can grow up to an inch a day. A floating plant with dense whorls of layered hair like foliage on delicate stems that can reach 24 inches in length. The Hornwort plant is beneficial to aquarium environments. This plant uses waste products in order to grow and in the process oxygenates the water.

Care

The Hornwort plant is easy to grow and will tolerate low light intensity. These plants do not require CO2 supplementation. Due to their rapid growth they will need regular pruning.

Propagation

Reproduction within this species is easily achieved from cuttings, simply cut with scissors and replant. While choosing a place for new plants, it is wise not to place near your filter.
